8 Cheap Ways To Improve The Look Of Your Car

Most of us car owners spend a lot of time in our vehicles.

I’m no fan of keeping up with the Jones’s but there’s always a temptation to trade the old run around in a brand spanking new one because our car is something we can (and should) be proud of.

Instead of purchasing a new vehicle every couple of years though, it’s far more cost efficient to keep the old one.

If you’re a bit embarrassed about it’s condition then there are many things you can do it improve it and make your car look like new again.

Here are some things you can do on the cheap:

Invest in a new set of seat covers.

If your seats are a bit warn or stained then best thing to do is grab yourself some new seat covers to spruce things up a bit. This will make a huge difference to the interior of your car.

Replace your floor mats

These are usually the first things to get ruined and can make the car look really shabby. Use weather appropriate rubber floor mats (especially if you live in the countryside) – this will keep your carpet looking good and prevent mold growth from wet boots.

Although not practical, these mats (below) are probably the best we’ve ever seen…

Get the seats and carpets shampooed

Look for coupon deals online or at your local detail shops – wait until there is an offer on to make it cheaper. This is especially important if you have pets or kids! A good shampoo can also get rid of bad odours lurking in the car and can make your upholstery appear brand new.

Get a new stereo unit or AUX port

It won’t make you go any faster but the value of a car can be improved with any new technology. Almost all drivers enjoy listening to music and investing in a new stereo system can improve the cabin significantly.

Invest in quality paint

A good painting job doesn’t have to be super expensive but can give your car a new lease of life. Again look for coupons and offers to make it cheaper for you.

Replacement of worn out and old tyres

You wouldn’t think they could make such a difference in a car’s appearance but they do. Apart from posing a safety hazard, worn out tyres makes the car look really old, especially if you’re missing hubcaps and the like!

Repair dents and scratches

There are many ways to remove dents and scratches and they don’t always have to be expensive. We are often posting tips and tricks on our Facebook page; the most recent was getting rid of minor scratches using toothpaste. Crazy huh!

Perform regular maintenance checks

Ok, so this may not contribute to the appearance but keeping your car in good working condition is even more important than ensuring it looks good. Spend some time on oil changes, filter replacement and belt checks.

The above tips can give life to an ageing car making it look new again. It can be embarrassing when you have to give someone a lift and your car looks like it belongs in the tip. Even when you are trying to sell your car – these tricks can make it appear much newer than it is so you’ll be able to get more bang for your buck!
