Sell Your Car Quickly To Avoid New Registration Price Drop
March 2017, 17 plate is soon to be released – some people get excited by this to show off their new 17 plate car. However if you’re looking to sell your car, waiting for the 17 plate to be released will almost guarantee you will get a lower price for your car than if you were to sell it now.
Why should I sell my car now?
On March 1st 2017, we welcome the “17 plate”, which means the 66 plate will no longer be the newest car on the road. Literally overnight your car will appear 6 months older, and unfortunately there’s nothing you can do.
We had a customer in this week to sell his BMW as he is having a brand new Mercedes, which he is collecting on March 3rd. I advised him of the price drop that is imminent and actually showed him last year’s figures and the drop between Feb 16 / Mar 16 – it was an £800 price drop!
So I advised if you can be without your car for 10 days, you are going to save £800 – he is now booked in to sell before March 1st.
What do the numbers and letters mean on car registrations?
Every wondered what all those numbers and letters actually mean on your car reg? Well there are 3 sections…
Section 1 – A Local Memory Tag
The first two letters indicate where in the UK the vehicle was first registered.
Section 2 – Age Identifier
The 3rd and 4th digits are known as the age identifier. This changes twice a year. The code is either the last two digits of the year itself if issued between March and August (e.g. “15″ for registrations issued between 1 March and 31 August 2015), or else has 50 added to that value if issued between September and February the following year (e.g. “65″ for registrations issued between 1 September 2015 and 28 February 2015).
Section 3 – Random 3 letter sequence
Random three letters which are chosen at random. The letters I and Q are excluded.
